Join Honeygirl Flowers at the Hanover Arts and Activities Center for a week of flower fun! Sessions will run the week of July 8th from 9 a.m.-noon. Campers (rising third through eighth-graders) will learn the basics of creating beautiful flower arrangements in vases, of course, but flowers can be used for so much more! We will create:
- fresh flower crowns, hand-tied bouquets, and fresh flower jewelry…
- felt flowers for floral barrettes and headbands, painted flower designs, embossed flower images, hand-crafted paper flowers, and more…
- decorated cookies and cupcakes with flower designs and our own homemade floral ice-cream.
We will also delve into the science of flowers by dissecting them to take a look inside, and we will explore ways to design and plant gardens.
We will leave the Center behind for several walking field trips to local gardens and shops and hear from a variety of local experts and business owners about how they work with flowers and sell their own blooms.
Andrea Ferment taught full-time in the public school system for 35 years, including the last 20 as a fifth-grade teacher in Ashland. She still teaches science resource classes at Gandy Elementary on a part-time basis. Several veteran teachers will assist her daily at Camp Bloom.
Cost of the week-long camp is $150.
Please register below. We accept checks or credit cards. You may choose to make a $50 downpayment with the rest of the tuition due by July 1, 2019 or you may choose to make the tuition payment in full.
ASHLAND MUSEUM 2019 SPEAKER SERIES:“THE COMPLICATED AND HILARIOUS HISTORY OF THE ASHLAND MUSICAL VARIETY SHOW”
SUNDAY, MARCH 10, 2019 AT THE ASHLAND THEATRE
The Ashland Museum is thrilled to announce the third and final installment of its 2019 Speaker Series, “The Complicated and Hilarious History of the Ashland Musical Variety Show!” Show directors Sue Watson and Lorie Foley will present a multimedia retrospective of the first 35 years of the show at the Ashland Theatre on March 10, 2019. Two presentations are scheduled, with one showing at 1:00 p.m. and the other at 4:00 pm. Tickets are $10 each, with proceeds benefitting the Ashland Museum and offsetting the cost of theatre rental. Tickets can be purchased at the Ashland Museum’s web site, www.ashlandmuseum.org.
Sue Forbes Watson co-founded the Ashland Musical Variety Show in 1982 as fundraising event for the Hanover Arts and Activities Center. The show has been performed every other year since 1983, with Lorie Foley joining the production team in 1997. Construction plans for R-MC’s Blackwell Auditorium prevented the show from being held this year, so the Ashland Museum asked the directors to join its 2019 Speaker Series.
The Hanover Arts and Activities Center is producing a special commemorative program for the event. As it has in the past, the program will allow local businesses to promote their products and services through sponsorships. Individuals may also submit special “memories” and personal photos of the Ashland Musical Variety Show that will be published in the program. Proceeds from the memories and sponsorships will directly benefit the nonprofit Center, which has relied on the variety show for funding for the past 37 years. Ad prices will vary depending on size and placement within the program. The charge for submitting a memory is $15. The deadline for submissions is Friday, February 22nd.
The March 10th presentations will feature Watson and Foley outlining the history the Ashland Musical Variety Show and its various performers and volunteer supporters over the years. Tom Wulf of WulfTeam Productions is providing video clips of the show’s development process and notable numbers, which will be shown throughout the presentations. Wulf has served as the variety show’s video producer since 2001.
Tickets for the two presentations are expected to sell out quickly, as thousands of area residents have contributed to the show since its inception. Ticket sales, sponsorships, and memory submissions will help the Center and Museum continue to offer great cultural and educational programs to the Ashland/Hanover community.
